📋 Position Summary
As our new 5th Grade Teacher, you will be responsible for designing and delivering engaging instructional lessons that meet state and district curriculum standards. You will support students’ academic and social development, create a welcoming classroom environment, and work closely with staff and families to support student success.
You will report directly to the Principal and work a full-time schedule aligned with the district’s 197-day certified work calendar.
🎯 Key Responsibilities
- Deliver district-approved curriculum aligned with Arizona state standards.
- Teach core subjects and foster citizenship values and personal responsibility.
- Create dynamic and age-appropriate lesson plans tailored to the needs of diverse learners.
- Conduct individualized and small group instruction for differentiated learning.
- Maintain consistent communication with parents via phone calls, newsletters, emails, and conferences.
- Assess and track student academic progress and social development through accurate recordkeeping and progress reports.
- Collaborate with staff and administration to support students with IEPs or special education needs.
- Provide leadership and direction to teacher aides, volunteers, and parent helpers.
- Establish a well-managed classroom culture conducive to learning.
- Incorporate educational displays, student work, and interactive stations to enrich the learning environment.
- Uphold district policies, ethical standards, and confidentiality at all times.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and school community events.

🧠 Qualifications and Certification Requirements
- Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate (Elementary Education)
- Structured English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement — Required for employment with DUSD
- Valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in education or a related field

- Strong knowledge of instructional design and developmentally appropriate teaching methods.
- Proficiency in classroom management, student assessment, and parent communication.
- Ability to analyze data, differentiate instruction, and implement intervention strategies.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills to build relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
- Organizational skills for maintaining accurate records and documentation.
- Familiarity with educational software, student learning platforms, and adaptive technology.
🛠 Working Conditions and ADA Requirements
- Work is primarily conducted indoors in a classroom environment.
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, reach, and perform light lifting (up to 20 pounds).
- This role may require repetitive movements, speaking, hearing, and visual focus for extended periods.
